RBCC2 vs Brussels Greens CC (home)

RBCC lost by 12 runs

Match Report

On what would later go on to become a historic day for cricket, the second team, looking to return to winning ways won the toss against the Greens and chose to bowl first on a cloudy and cold day. With the conditions aiding swing and movement, Ricky and captain Mathew started off the bowling with some wonderful pace bowling we’ve seen all season. Ricky picked up the first wicket in the 5th over and the next 4 overs brought in two more wickets and ZERO runs. Ricky used the conditions to his advantage and bowled like a man possessed to bag 5 wickets and he was supported perfectly from the other end by Matt. With only half the innings done, Greens were struggling at 78-8, but a they pulled back by adding 60 runs for the last two wickets, where RBCC let the reins down a little bit. Anudeep, Sharan and Sameel picked up a wicket each. The fielding was tight with Jawad grabbing everything that came his way behind the stumps, Sudhanshu with a catch to his name and Matt with a brilliant direct hit to get the last wicket.

As good as the bowling and fielding were, our batting was sub-par with 5 batsmen getting out on 0, a shame really in a low scoring chase. Sudhanshu and Jawad started the rebuilding of the innings after two quick wickets in the third over. After a 62-run partnership, Sudhanshu got out for 23 and a couple of wickets fell in quick succession. Sameel gave some hope of revival by running quick 1s and 2s along with Jawad who was fighting the battle without much support from the other end, the lone warrior. Some more reckless shots and throwing wickets away later, RBCC succumbed to a devastating defeat by 12 runs. Jawad remained unbeaten on 62.

Despite the soul crushing disappointment in the defeat, there were a lot of positives to take from the first innings. Let’s regroup, take some time and march on. The only way from here is up.
