RBCC1 vs Beveren CC (home)

RBCC lost by 6 wickets

Match Report

On Sunday the lads from Royal Brussels CC arrived at a very soaked club to take on a strong Beveren CC for their second Division 1 game. Beveren CC won the toss and elected to field. Maqsood Ahmed the debutant and Manuj Khanna were the opening batsmen for the day. They started with great restraint against a good bowling attack and difficult batting conditions. Manuj was the first one to fall at the score of 11, bringing in Daniel Hope at one drop. Daniel showed some good defensive technique which was required at that time. Maqsood being the agressor in the partnership was now playing freely ticking the scoreboard to 52 in 13 overs, before Daniel got out.

In comes the Skipper Waqas at no 4, who got a bit unlucky with a ball which kept a bit low hitting the stumps ending his innings early. At 55-3 it was required to consolidate for a bit but another quick wicket of  Usman Azim meant Rbcc were in a difficult position at 56-4 , Maqsood was rock solid on the other end but losing partners regularly now.

M.Ehsanullah the 17 year old joined Maqsood in the middle and they started to rebuild the innings, taking the score to 92 in 28 overs however, he also fell for a good 14 runs. Khuram Shahzad strode to the middle very confident from his last innings of  a quick 95 but couldn’t repeat the heroics this time and got out for 10. Hameel Hayat was the next man in who played cautiously trying to give the strike to Maqsood , the set batsman but with a re occurring back injury couldn’t run properly resulting in him being run out. At the score of 131-7 in 42 overs, Now with the tail remaining  Maqsood started to push for runs ending the innings at 182 for 9 in 50 overs.
Maqsood was the stand out performer scoring 94 not out and carried the bat showing good technique and intent through out the innings.

After the innings break, Royal Brussels were charged to take on the field as they had a decent score to fight for, RBCC opened the bowling with Waqas and Usman Malik, both bowling with good pace and decent lines.Waqas picked up a couple of wickets early on. With the opposition 2 down, they started to put together a decent partnership, with the run rate always above the required rate. Some average bowling also made it easy for the batsman to score freely.

At 110-2 in 18 overs Waqas came back for his second spell and got the break through dismissing the set batsman.Another quick wicket fell, Khuram got the no 4 LBW. Now with 114 for 4 there seemed a slight chance of a great comeback but with a few drop catches and some lazy fielding it was all over quickly. Beveren CC chased the total 184 for 4 in 28.4 overs.

In the end a few positives from the game were Maqsood’s innings on debut. Also playing 50 overs in both the league games is an achievement in itself and the RBCC fighting spirit till the end against a strong side is something to savour.
