RBCC1 vs AICC (home)

RBCC won by 4 wickets

Match Report

The first team met with AICC on a sunny morning, perfect for a good day’s cricket. The team was in good spirits looking to extend the 2 match winning streak. Playing against a good team with a very good track record against RBCC, the home team had to be at the top of their game to make a match of it.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. Waqas and Usman Malik opened the bowling and they were immediately able to extract some pace and swing. Both Usman and Waqas got into the wickets and picked up 4 wickets with substantial movement in the air to leave the opposition tottering at 29/4 after 9 overs. With the top order gone, the AICC batsmen decided to take the defensive route till Khurram was able to effect a run out off his own bowling with some smart fielding. Khurram then went on to pick up a couple of big wickets over the course of the next few overs as a result of some excellent control and more swing leaving AICC at 71/7 after 20 overs.

With almost the entire batting side back in the pavilion, the energy levels slightly faded from RBCC and some resolute defence from their numbers 8 and 9, took the score to 110 when Maqsood stepped up to pick up the wicket straight after the drinks break. The opposition continued to play the waiting game and RBCC leaked some easy runs. But Maqsood picked up their number 10 as a result of some canny field placement which forced the batsman to hit out. Waqas returned to pick up the last wicket and the AICC inning wrapped up for a well below par score of 135 in the 39th over.

There was a marked improvement in the standard of fielding form the home side. With the introduction of some young legs. Matt, Daniel and Basit made a huge difference in the field and were constantly placed in crucial run saving position. Daniel showed some excellent athleticism to almost pull off the catch of the year when he flew horizontal to the ground at cover point but was unable to hang on the a very difficult chance.

The now established opening pair of Maqsood and Usman Malik went out to give the home team a positive start and Usman hit a six off the first ball he faced in the opening over. What followed in the second over was a first, with batsmen taking an easy single and Usman with his back towards the fielder didn’t realise the throw was headed to his end till it hit the stumps with Usman walking towards the crease. Basit was promoted to number 3 and the two started to tick the runs over with some good technique against some disciplined bowling. Basit fell in the 9th over and when MAqsood departed for 23 in the 15th over, there were a few jitters. Daniel went in to join Waqas at the crease but fell to a straight one. At 50/4 in the 17th over the home team was in desperate need for a partnership to ensure the early advantage didn’t go to waste.

Usman Azim joined Waqas and the skipper and his deputy started to do what they do best. Waqas was scoring at a run a ball with some controlled hitting while Usman was blocking out the best the opposition could throw at him. The pair ensured there was no further loss of wickets and started to rotate the strike with ease. The opposition became desperate for wickets and started to lose focus. Waqas continued to score freely with a shovel over his right shoulder for a boundary was soon followed by a leg spinner being introduced and Waqas hit him for 16 runs to bring up the 100 for the team and 50 of the partnership. He soon reached 50 and with the end in sight was caught at point trying to finish the game quickly.

Matt came in with the score at 111/5 in the 30th over but failed to finish the game. Jitendriya joined Usman and the pair finished off the game in the 36th over with Usman finishing up 30 not out. The less said about Jitendriya’s ensuing over zealous celebrations the better.

RBCC improved their record with their third straight victory and against one of the top rated teams in the country. The positive vibe in the dressing room and a marked improvement in the fielding standards was a pleasure to witness. Wishing the team well in the effort to continue the winning streak.
