RBCC won by 29 runs

Match Report

Skipper for the day, Sameel Hayat finally won a toss after 4 attempts and elected to bat on a fair-weather day. Usman Malik & Daniel Hope opened up for the home side but Usman Malik after having a successful run as an opener in previous games departed for a duck. Daniel was joined by Jawad Mian who started to battle it out in testing conditions with the ball swinging sharply. The pair progressed steadily while scoring at a decent rate. Having built a decent partnership Daniel was the next to depart after top edging the ball to the keeper.

With score at 41/2 Hameel walked in at the crease. Both batsmen were out in quick succession after a brief partnership. Farrukh Malik & Abdul Basit found themselves out at the wicket earlier than expected. Farrukh Malik could not survive long and was the next batsman out. Later, Jitendriya Swain arrived at the crease and looked in fine touch from the word go. He managed to find boundaries regularly while Abdul Basit kept playing a good support role. The pair put on 92 together. Jitendriya was dismissed for 52 off 36 with 10 fours in his innings. Khuram Shehzad, the in-form batsman walked in and started off cautiously as there were still 10 overs left. Abdul Basit was out lbw after scoring 34 off 47. Sameel came in to join Khurram who was ready to accelerate. With his eye set in, Khurram dispatched the ball for a six as he got into attacking mode. With a quick fire 30 he was out caught. The tail did not survive, and Royal Brussels CC posted a healthy total of 231 all out in the 33rd over.

Both teams were treated to an Eid special lunch prepared by Farrukh Malik. After a 45-minute break Royal Brussels CC was ready to defend the total. With the cloud cover still there, Khuram Shehzad opened the bowling for us with Usman Malik his opening bowling partner. The first breakthrough came in the second over when the batsman tried to clear the infield but got caught at Mid-off. Khuram Shehzad continued to bowl a neat & tidy line through out.

The opposition were unable to score freely as the first change came in the 11th over. Hameel replaced Usman from the far end. He kept bowling at tight lines and kept building up pressure by bowling dot balls. Farrukh took over from Khurram and provided with a break through immediately. At 81/3 with two new batsmen at the wicket they were able to put on a solid partnership before the break through came in 28th over when Nitesh broke the 99-run partnership.

Having opened the doors Nitesh managed to bag another 3 wickets in his 6 overs. Finishing with figures 4/35. With 59 runs required off 4 overs and 3 wickets left, the home side looked set to finish on the winning side. Daniel Hope was given the penultimate over and bowling under pressure he delivered by leaving 30 runs to defend in the last over. With a good effort in the field the batting side was restricted to 205/8 in 35 overs. Hameel Hayat finished with figures of 1/24 after giving away only 4 runs in his last over. A good all-round effort led to another victory for Royal Brussels CC.
