RBCC vs Braine-l’Alleud CC

RBCC won by 7 wickets

Match Report

RBCC hosted new team Braine-l’Alleud to Ohain on Sunday July 29th, with our very own Hameel playing for the opposition.   Losing the toss meant the home team had to bowl first in fresher weather conditions than of late.  Maqsood and Wasooq opened the bowling against an aggressive pair of openers, Wasooq making the early breakthroughs bowling two top order batsmen with him customary in swing. With the run rate now under control and after a pacey opening spell, Maqsood was replaced by Waqas with Sachin coming on at the bottom end. Debutant Nakul replaced the promising Sachin and bowled a tidy spell.

After Waqas took another top order wicket, Vinay bowled from the golf course after brilliantly running out one of the opposition’s key batsmen. Inspired by Vinay’s athleticism, Chairman Nick combined with our off spinner to prise out two more batsman both falling in identical fashion caught at point. A thankful Vinay duly bought the Chairman a beer at close of play! Replacing Nakul at the bottom end Chris got another batsman out caught at point by Jawad. But struggling with the wind he went for a few boundaries before bowling his tormenter with a swinging delivery. The two W’s combined to finish the innings, with Wasooq getting their last batsman out LBW.

Chasing 199 off 40 overs RBCC felf confident off victory. A fast outfield, hot conditions and a placid track encouraged skipper Chris to experiment with the batting order, a decision that paid dividends. Prateek and Asama opened up well though the latter failed to build on a good start.  Wasooq – our champion opening bowler and all round club legend – was then elevated to number 3 and he and Prateek batted well striking a number of boudaries and running well between the wickets. Prateek then departed for 20 bowled by a fast in-swinger. This brought Chairman Nick to the crease for the partnership of the match. Mixing strong defence with his trademark cover drives, the Chairman ably assisted his senior partner. With the pair putting on more then 70 for the 3rd wicket RBCC were making light work of the chase. Having done all the hand work, Nick was caught and bowled by their young leg spinner bringing Sachin to the crease who promptly hit his first ball into long off’s hands. The in-form Jawad joined the increasingly confident Wasooq  and the pair took us home with plenty of overs to spare, Wasooq finishing on an RBCC career best 77 not out with 8 boudaries and a six. A great innings we all knew he was capable off, it will now be much harder to keep him in the lower order!
