RBCC-U17 vs Hasselt CC (away)

RBCC lost by 3 wickets

Match Report

RBCC U17 had their first game of the season on Saturday April 28, away at a blustery Hasselt ground. The opposition looked tough during the warm-up, and so it proved in the match.

RBCC won the toss, and elected to bat,  and new captain Asama led the batting well. He and Robbie put on an RBCC record on this ground, 76 for the opening wicket, after 10vers. This was particularly impressive after a fierce opening 4 overs from Hasselt’s pace bowlers, including a bouncer for Robbie. Sadly Asama fell on 29, but the strike rate was good, with a flurry of 4s from Robbie and 2 sixes from Asama. Abdulmanan struck a lusty 16 off 6 balls, but when he fell and Robbie had to retire on 31 not out, the pace slowed – Sachin, Hugo and Abdulwahed found runs tough. It was not until the 17th over that the run rate picked up again, and some mighty blows from Parwez and Sabahoon (18 not out, and 16 respectively) led RBCC to a respectable 147-6 after 20 overs.

Asama juggled his bowlers for Hasselt’s innings, and Abdulhassir got an early breakthrough with an excellent caught and bowled. But Hasselt continued at pace, and motored along at 10 an over for the first 9 overs. But RBCC kept pressuring the batsmen, Hugo kept behind the stumps well, and an impressive 3-10 from Abdulwahed, and 3 excellent run outs (great pick-ups and throws in) meant some nervy moments towards the latter overs. Zubair chipped in with 2 late wickets, and Alex bowled well and kept his discipline for a well deserved wicket. However, in the end, Hasselt eased across the line with 5 overs to spare.

Well done to all – Asama captained well, and the impressive run outs, a solid opening pair, and some good individual bowling, augurs well for future matches.
