RBCC-T20 vs Vervier CC (away)

Match Report

The T20 team headed to Mechelen for a double header looking for the first proper win of the season. The boys turned up to an extremely wet early season ground. The first match was against the home team, Mechelen Eagles, who won the toss and decided to bat.

The second match of the day started more than an hour late and some fresh legs joined the team for the evening. The opposition, Verviers, were asked to bowl and RBCC went in with a new opening pair of Prateek and Deepak. The pair gave the team a healthy start, with some hard running on a slow outfield. Waqas and Alex D got together and were immediately fluent in collecting quick runs. Waqas continued his form from the morning and once again top scored with 71, containing 7 maximums and 2 boundaries.   As wickets fell, each new batsmen was able to contribute, with Jitendriya and Wasooq finishing the innings strong and the team ended with a strong total of 195/7.

Even after putting up a huge total, the bowlers still needed to show up to ensure the good work didn’t go to waste. With the Verviers needing to go at 10 an over from the start, Usman Malik picked up 2 early wickets to put them on the defensive. Waqas and Khurram kept the scoring rate within control and when Sameel was introduced in fading light, he immediately started picking up wickets. The opposition was never given a sniff with Sameel wiping up the second half of the batting lineup and ended with figures of 5/19. Other than the bowling, it was great to see the lads perform brilliantly in the field. Several tough catches were held on to with great skill. The opposition was eventually bundled out in the 19th over for 124. The massive margin of victory, 71 runs, was a good indicator of the team’s performance.
