RBCC-T20 vs Eagles CC (home)

Match Report

After a decent lunch, the second match of the day against Mechelen Eagles, started with RBCC making a couple of changes to the starting eleven. Bowling first again, they were able to pick up a couple of quick wickets through Khurram’s bowling, but some fortunate edges ensured that the opposition’s run rate was close to 10 an over in the powerplay. The fielding was a mixed bag. Brighton having setup the opener nicely was unlucky to have a sitter dropped by Usman early on, who then went on to hang on to a good catch later in the innings.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, RBCC was well on their way to restricting Mechelen to a score of around 125. Specially once the 8th wicket fell at 104, the team was looking to wrap up the innings quickly. But with the number 10 swinging hard and some ordinary fielding, they were able to score 60 odd runs in the next 6 overs, finishing with 165 all out. The wickets were shared amongst all the bowlers.

When the openers came out looking to be positive, it was essential for RBCC to get off to a solid start to chase down a decent total. However the Mechelen opening bowlers generated decent swing at good pace and able to claim the wickets of Arun, Mishi and Waqas before Khurram was even able to finish his chicken curry! Brighton came out, having played through the day with an injury, and understandably decided to swing away. He was able to put up a decent partnership with Usman, and some lusty blows ensured that RBCC was kept in the game. The two put on 70 odd runs in 10 overs and gave some hope of an unlikely win. However when Brighton fell for a 36 ball 45 and Usman soon after, the scoreboard pressure was too much for the lads coming in. RBCC finished all out for 122, but it was good to see an excellent fight being put up by the entire team and not just a few of the players.

On to the next phase of the T20 league in the next round!
